Nuna SWIV Review: Is a Sideways-Rolling Stroller Worth It?
Short answer: The Nuna SWIV is worth it if your days are full of tight corners: elevators, small shops, busy sidewalks. Its wheels turn 360 degrees at the press of a button, so it can slide sideways. Nuna lists it at $1,000 and 21.8 lb, with a 22 lb basket. It is single only, and the seat does not lie fully flat.

The Nuna SWIV solves one problem very well: getting a stroller into and out of tight spaces. Hold a button on the handlebar and all four wheels rotate freely, so you can slide it sideways into an elevator or past a table. Consumer Reports scored it 81 and praised the suspension and the basket. At $1,000 for a single stroller it is pricey, and Consumer Reports suggests a bassinet or car seat for newborn naps. It also found the SWIV bulkier than its 21.8 lb weight suggests.
Who is the Nuna SWIV for?
The Nuna SWIV is for parents whose days include tight turns: apartment elevators, crowded shops, café tables and transit. Its signature feature is 360-degree wheel rotation. Hold a button on the handlebar and the stroller can roll sideways or pivot on the spot; let go and it strolls normally. Nuna lists it at $1,000 and 21.8 lb, light for a stroller with a full-size reversible seat. Consumer Reports, which scored it 81, said the swivel wheels made it easier to turn in tight indoor spaces. It is a single stroller, so families planning a second child soon should look at a single-to-double. It comes with a cup holder, rain cover and carry bag. Parents who mostly drive between big stores may not use the swivel enough to justify the price.
How does the SWIV ride and steer?
The Nuna SWIV has four wheels with button-activated 360-degree rotation, puncture-proof tires, all-wheel suspension and extra spring suspension in the seat, according to Nuna. Consumer Reports found the suspension handled bumpy sidewalks and rough grass well, but said it was hard to steer one-handed on bumpy sidewalks. Owners on Babylist are split, on a small sample of three: one called the swivel button "amazing", another found the wheels small and the ride "too shaky" at times. The handlebar adjusts to 36.5, 40 or 42 in, per Babylist's listing. The rear wheels share a one-touch brake, according to Nuna. Nuna does not market it for running or trails. For flat city ground and tight corners, the sideways glide is a real help.

How big is the SWIV when folded?
Nuna lists the Nuna SWIV at 21.8 lb with insert, arm bar and canopy, or 19.2 lb without them. Folded, it measures 14.5 x 21 x 30.5 in and stands on its own. The seat folds flat in either direction, so you can fold it whichever way your child faces. Nuna describes a one-handed fold using a folding ring with a handle. Consumer Reports disagreed, saying it "is definitely not a one-handed fold", and also found it bulkier than its weight suggests. Babylist owners called the fold light and compact. It is not carry-on size, but the included carry bag helps if you check it on a flight.
Is the SWIV comfortable and safe?
The Nuna SWIV seat faces you or the world and has three recline positions, including near-flat, adjusted with one hand. Consumer Reports said it does not recline as far as the Nuna TRVL LX and is not ideal for newborn naps without a bassinet or car seat. Two owners on Babylist said the same. Nuna sells a SWIV & TRIV series bassinet separately, which Consumer Reports put at $400. The MagneTech buckles snap shut on their own, the harness switches from 3 to 5 points without rethreading, and Consumer Reports praised the mesh seat back and canopy for hot days. The seat holds up to 50 lb.
How much storage does the SWIV have?
Nuna rates the Nuna SWIV basket at 22 lb. Consumer Reports said it held several days of groceries, a good result for a stroller this light. Babylist's listing also mentions extra storage pockets, and Nuna includes a parent cup holder. A diaper bag, a jacket and a shopping run fit without trouble. That matches the basket ratings Nuna gives the DEMI next and Bugaboo gives the Dragonfly Plus, though it is less than the 30 lb basket on the UPPAbaby Cruz V3. Nuna does not list a basket volume.

The seat is rated to 50 lb, so most children can ride until they no longer need a stroller.
How do the SWIV's 360-degree wheels work?
Most strollers have front wheels that swivel and rear wheels that stay fixed. On the Nuna SWIV, Nuna says all four wheels can rotate 360 degrees. Press and hold the button on the pushbar and the stroller can slide side to side or pivot in place; release it and the wheels go back to normal strolling. Consumer Reports said this made tight indoor turns easier, and a Babylist owner called the button "so helpful". The sideways mode is a tool for small spaces, not for long walks, and Consumer Reports still found one-handed steering hard on bumpy sidewalks. If your days are full of elevators, narrow aisles and crowded doors, this is the feature you are paying for.

Nuna SWIV FAQ
Is the Nuna SWIV worth it?
For city parents who deal with tight spaces every day, often yes. Nuna lists it at $1,000 and 21.8 lb, with a 22 lb basket and 360-degree wheels that slide sideways. Consumer Reports scored it 81. It is single only, and newborns need a bassinet or infant car seat for flat naps.
How do the SWIV's wheels turn sideways?
Press and hold a button on the pushbar and all four wheels rotate freely, Nuna says, so the stroller can slide side to side or pivot on the spot. Release the button and it goes back to normal strolling. It helps most in elevators, shops, café aisles and crowded doorways.
Can a newborn ride in the Nuna SWIV?
Yes, with the right setup. The seat reclines near-flat but not fully flat, and Consumer Reports suggests a bassinet or car seat for newborn naps. Any Nuna PIPA infant car seat clicks on with the included ring adapter, and the SWIV & TRIV series bassinet is sold separately.
How big is the Nuna SWIV folded?
Nuna lists 14.5 x 21 x 30.5 in folded, and it stands on its own. It weighs 21.8 lb with insert, arm bar and canopy, or 19.2 lb without. Nuna calls the fold one-handed, but Consumer Reports said it is not. It is not carry-on size.
