The City Select 2 is a lower-cost way into a single-to-double stroller. At $659.99 it is $340 under the UPPAbaby Vista V3, and even with the $279.99 second seat it stays below it. Baby Jogger offers 24 configurations and a 45 lb limit per seat. The trade-offs are real: small never-flat wheels, front-only suspension, a 15 lb basket and a fold BabyGearLab found needs two hands. It ranked 13th of 20 there. Buy it for growing-family flexibility on city sidewalks, not for a plush ride.

Who is the Baby Jogger City Select 2 for?

The Baby Jogger City Select 2 is for parents who expect a second child, or already have a toddler and a baby on the way, and want one stroller that can carry both. Baby Jogger lists it at $659.99 and calls it a 24-configuration stroller that grows from single to double, or to three riders with a glider board. That price is well below the UPPAbaby Vista V3 at $999.99. You do pay for extras, though: the second seat kit is $279.99 and the deluxe pram is $279.99. BabyGearLab ranked it 13th of 20 full-size strollers and said it suits families with more than one child better than a single child. If you only ever need one seat, a lighter single stroller makes more sense. If you need two seats on a budget, it deserves a close look.

How does the City Select 2 ride and steer?

Baby Jogger lists never-flat wheels, all-terrain tires and front-wheel suspension on the City Select 2. There is no rear suspension. BabyGearLab found it moved well on hard floors, over cords and across thresholds, but it took more effort on grass and gravel, and the reviewers called its off-road performance "not brag-worthy." They also noted the small wheels meant lifting the front for curbs, and warned it would struggle more as the child got heavier. A Babylist article produced with Baby Jogger says it is not meant for jogging. The telescoping handlebar is a plus if one parent is much taller than the other. For paved sidewalks, shops and smooth park paths it does the job. For rough ground, look at a stroller with bigger air-filled tires.

How big is the City Select 2 when folded?

Baby Jogger lists the City Select 2 at 26.71 lb with one seat, and BabyGearLab measured 27.2 lb. Baby Jogger calls it a one-step compact fold and says it folds 20% smaller than the 2020 UPPAbaby Vista V2. It does not publish folded dimensions. BabyGearLab measured 33 x 24.3 x 12 in with one seat, about 9,623 cubic inches. The reviewers said it folds fairly quickly but needs two hands, and it does not stand on its own, so you bend down to lift it. With the second seat on, BabyGearLab could not fit it in a sedan trunk without removing that seat. It is not a carry-on stroller.

Is the City Select 2 comfortable and safe?

The Baby Jogger City Select 2 seat has an adjustable recline and calf support. BabyGearLab counted four recline positions and lists the seat from 6 months, so a newborn rides in the deluxe pram ($279.99) or an infant car seat on adapters. Each seat holds up to 45 lb, and BabyGearLab lists a 40 in height limit. The extended UV 50+ canopy has a peekaboo window. BabyGearLab rated kid comfort as decent but logged a rough ride for naps, which it linked to the lack of rear shocks. Baby Jogger says the seats sit further apart than on the Vista V2 when both are attached. Baby Jogger backs the frame with a limited lifetime warranty.

How much storage does the City Select 2 have?

Baby Jogger lists an under-seat basket that holds up to 15 lb, plus a seat-back storage pocket. BabyGearLab's spec table gives 17 lb, but Baby Jogger's own page and its text say 15 lb, so plan on 15. The reviewers fit a large diaper bag, while a messenger bag was a tight squeeze depending on seat position. Access gets harder once the second seat is on. For a stroller built to carry two children, 15 lb is modest; the UPPAbaby Vista V3 basket is rated for 30 lb.

BabyGearLab lists the toddler seat from 6 months. Adjustable recline (four positions, per BabyGearLab) with adjustable calf support

  2. 02 · Sitting up, through the toddler years

    Seat, upright

The seat is rated to 45 lb and 40 in, so most children can ride until they no longer need a stroller.

    Two children

Single-to-double with the second seat kit ($279.99, sold separately); a glider board (sold separately) adds a third rider; 24 configurations

How does the single-to-double setup work?

The Baby Jogger City Select 2 starts as a single stroller with one toddler seat. Add the second seat kit ($279.99) and it becomes an inline double, with one child in front of the other. Baby Jogger counts 24 configurations, including two seats, a seat plus an infant car seat, or the deluxe pram. A glider board, sold separately, lets an older child stand at the back, so up to three children can ride. Car seats from Baby Jogger, Britax, Chicco, Graco, Nuna and UPPAbaby fit with adapters. Each seat holds 45 lb. BabyGearLab's double review measured 35.5 lb with both seats and called the doubled fold one of the largest it saw. So it works, but the doubled stroller is long and heavy.

Baby Jogger City Select 2 FAQ

Is the Baby Jogger City Select 2 worth it?

It is worth it if you want a single-to-double stroller on a budget. Baby Jogger lists it at $659.99, and the second seat is $279.99 more. You get 24 configurations and a 45 lb limit per seat. Reviewers found the wheels weak off pavement and the basket small at 15 lb.

Can a newborn ride in the City Select 2?

Yes, but not in the standard seat. BabyGearLab lists the toddler seat from 6 months. For a newborn, add the deluxe pram, which Baby Jogger sells for $279.99, or click in an infant car seat from Baby Jogger, Britax, Chicco, Graco, Nuna or UPPAbaby using adapters sold separately.

Can you jog with the City Select 2?

No. A Babylist article produced with Baby Jogger says the City Select 2 is not meant to be used as a jogging stroller. Baby Jogger lists all-terrain tires and front-wheel suspension, but BabyGearLab found it struggled on grass and gravel. For running, look at a stroller the maker approves for jogging.
