What do you get for more money?

  • Ride and steering: bigger wheels, better suspension and stiffer frames, which matter most if you walk a lot on rough sidewalks.
  • More in the box: premium strollers more often include a bassinet, car seat adapters or a rain cover. The Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew ($1,499) includes a bassinet and adapters.
  • Bigger baskets: the UPPAbaby Cruz V3 holds 30 lb; many budget strollers hold about 10 lb.
  • Longer warranties and resale value: well-known premium brands tend to sell well secondhand.
  • Design and fabrics: some of the price is style. The Cybex Priam (New Generation) ($999.95) is a design-led stroller with an 11 lb basket.

What you don't get is extra basic safety: every stroller sold in the US must meet the same federal standard. See our stroller safety guide.

What are the hidden costs?

The list price is rarely the final price. Before you compare, add up what you'll actually need:

  • A bassinet if the seat isn't approved from birth. The Cybex Priam (New Generation) carry cot is $499.95, per Cybex.
  • Car seat adapters if your infant car seat doesn't click on directly.
  • A second seat for a single-to-double. The Mockingbird Single-to-Double 3.0 2nd Seat Kit is $175.
  • Rain cover, cup holder and travel bag, which some makers include and others sell separately.

How much should you spend?

  • Under $300: fine for a second stroller, travel, or an older baby. See the best strollers under $300.
  • $300 to $600: the sweet spot for many families, with good travel strollers and solid full-size options. See the best under $500.
  • $600 and up: worth it if you'll walk daily for three or four years, want a second-seat option, or plan to resell.

Stroller cost FAQ

How much does a good stroller cost?

Good strollers start around $200 for travel models and $300 to $400 for full-size ones. Premium full-size and single-to-double strollers usually cost $700 to $1,500. Our price table shows the lowest, median and highest list prices for each type among the strollers we review.

Are expensive strollers safer?

Not in basic safety terms. Every stroller sold in the US must meet the federal standard for carriages and strollers, based on ASTM F833, whatever it costs. Spending more usually buys a smoother ride, more storage, more accessories in the box and better resale value.

What is the most expensive stroller you review?

Among the strollers we review, the Bugaboo Donkey 6 single lists at $1,699 with its bassinet, and its double and twin versions cost more. The most expensive single-child stroller we cover is the Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew at $1,499, which includes a bassinet.

Is it worth buying a stroller secondhand?

It can be, especially for premium brands. Check the model and manufacture date on CPSC.gov/Recalls, test the brakes, frame lock and harness, and look for cracks or worn wheels. Our reviews of previous models, like the UPPAbaby Vista V2, cover what to check.
